Granicrete Australia
About Us

In 1975 our director Don Jenkins got his first inspiration that has led to what is now Granicrete Australia. It was a handmade copper waterfall hanging on his uncle’s wall. Water would fill one copper leaf just enough to make it tilt and then water would flow down a trail of drift wood that had been carved out to take the water from one leaf to another till it reached the bottom. The water was pumped back up to start its journey back down again. It was a beautiful sight for a 5-year-old and it stuck with Don until he was 27 years old. It was time to build a waterfall of his own.

The backyard of his new home was empty and provided the perfect space for a new pond and waterfall that he had been dreaming about for 22 years. When a friend introduced him to Tim Phelps, he had no idea that his life was about to change. Tim had products that allowed him to literally sculpt waterfalls out of light-weight concrete.

To Don’s surprise it was the flooring that Tim did that really sparked his interest. After working with Tim for about 5 years and becoming a certified trainer for Tim’s company, Don was able to get the unique opportunity to train floor installers around the United States for several years before moving to Melbourne Australia.

When he moved, he decided to bring what he was doing in the US all the way to Australia. He imported container loads of material and set up Granicrete Australia Pty Ltd in 2007. Well over two thousand floors have been created over the last 14 years for clients from all walks of life and commercial businesses including some of the biggest names.

Frequently Asked Questions

Polished Concrete and Epoxy Flooring are new to most people as a suitable flooring surface for the home. We’ve taken time to consider the most frequently asked questions to get you some quick answers below.

How Long Will Epoxy Flooring Last?

Most websites will tell you that Epoxy floors last 2-3 years. However at Granicrete we have developed a unique process to layering Epoxy, and we proudly offer 7 year guarantee on all Epoxy floors we install.

Can Epoxy Flooring Be Installed Over Tiles?

Yes, both epoxy flooring and Granicrete Coverstone flooring can be installed over existing tiles, as well as the raw concrete slap. This makes them ideal and low-hassle solutions for renovations!

Is Epoxy Good for Garage Floors?

The perfect solution for your home garage is epoxy flake flooring. It’s non-slip, extremely durable and very easy to wash down with a hose. Best of all, it looks amazing! We don’t recommend standard epoxy coating for your garage floor because being a smooth surface, that tends to ‘squeek’ under tyres, which can be annoying in most homes.

What's Better, Polished Concrete or Epoxy?

Polished concrete gets its beauty from being honed to a polished granite-like appearance. As such, it can be scratched, especially with abrasive cleaning, and is particularly prone to acid etching from foods & juices. Epoxy flooring on the other hand is sealed and impermeable, which means it won’t stain or etch.
